The Cathedral and the Bazaar by Eric Steven Raymond

First of all, I really enjoyed reading this lengthy article. Without knowing much about the open source programming, I was really interested and convinced about the value of the open source programming through out his story. His story was about how successful and so effecient open source programming it was while he launched his program and debugging it. and I think that will be true in many other cases besides.

We have the access to a lot more of resources than ever. With the internet and easy access to the knowledge, the intelligence of the average(?) people rose. Still quite percentage of people are interested in pop culture and celebrities’ lives than other things ( not that those are wrong). but we reached the point that Now most important thing makes you knowledgiable at something is not the accessibility but your interest and devotion on that matter.

I think there will be a time that mass will possess the knowledge and become pseudo expert/ expert on different matters and evenly. Then what the academia structure will be like when there are equal distribution of the knowledge so people can freely teach each others ? It might be end of the school. end of the term ‘ school’ but everywhere is school. It might be the end of the job teacher and students, but really the teachers and students are everywhere. those categories are undo - named since the boundaries will be gone.
Whenever I think about this, I think about the ‘freedom speech’ movement in 60’s in UC Berkley I’ve seen in documentary film Berkley in the 60’s . People could speak freely about anything they wanted in front of the microphone, but as one of the student/ participant at that time testified, she could learn far more than she could ever learn in one day, we can now learn from more of horizontal level with internet.

When Eric Steven Raymond said that ‘Linus’ hacker/users were constantly stimulated by the prospect of having an ego-satisfying piece of the action, rewarded by the sight of constant improvement in their work’, it reminded me of the Joseph beuysFree International University at the Kasel documenta with his realization of ” Man is only truly alive when he realizes he is a creative and active being.” and ” Every man is an artist” There was difference between Sudden realization and gradual involvement to the more creative level with the Enjoyment that makes them automated and active to build up actuality. If the Former, the prophesy like figure who gave us understanding by saying  the matter out loud, later, the one who made platform, actually is in need of participants’ help and they will be actually major contributors to solve and develope.
